General Facilities
Since humble beginnings in two secondhand demountables (1982), St Mark’s has continually committed itself to develop educational facilities that enhance the learning of students and are aesthetic. In addition, the school is located in tranquil park-like grounds, which bring an enviable ambience to the school facility.
Library
Constructed in 2001, this bright and colourful facility is heavily resourced to help students gain a love of literature and reading, plus assist in developing independent research skills.
Information Communication Technology (ICT)
Students enjoy interacting with extensive information technology resources at St Mark’s.
Information technology is now very much a daily part of school life, as students use it as a tool to enhance their learning, working with their teachers who have an excellent knowledge of ICT.
A purpose built ICT room, plus linked ICT to classrooms, allow students access to the world of information via the internet and email. In addition, software and hardware is continually upgraded to allow students to be on the cutting edge of ICT so they can continue to develop their ICT competencies.
Music/Art Room
The creative energies of the students come to the fore in this room through the visual and performance arts. The artistic talents of the students are fostered and encouraged through this purpose built facility.
Physical Education (PE)
The school has extensive play spaces for PE, with this important curriculum area supported by a wide and varied range of equipment. House sports, sports days, cross country and SAPSASA Carnivals are much loved parts of the yearly Physical Education program.
Worship Centre
St Mark’s is fortunate to be able to use the St Mark’s Lutheran Church as our place of worship. This modern and expansive building hosts weekly school chapel services, school assemblies and visiting performers and is an additional space for the extensive music program.
Future Developments
As part of the school’s determination to offer excellent facilities for students and staff, a ‘Masterplan’ was commissioned this year to highlight possible future developments at St Mark’s Lutheran School.
Over 2005/06, the following facilities have been approved by the governing School Council for construction.
i) netball/basketball courts - completed
ii) an additional playground - completed
iii) administration building - completed
iv) development of a new classroom
v) enlarged staff room and miscellaneous modification to current buildings
These developments will see students and staff at St Mark’s enjoy facilities that are first-class.
