Curriculum

Curriculum

The key principle underpinning the school's curriculum is for the content to be broad and holistic whilst acknowledging that learning is developmental and builds upon prior success.

In line with this principle, the curriculum is based upon the South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability Framework. It is also influenced by curriculum guidelines from Lutheran Education Australia and how best we can meet the learning needs of students in the 21st Century.

At St Mark's, we acknowledge English and Mathematics are the twin pillars of learning and therefore are foundational to students as they develop knowledge, skills and processes.

Christian Studies is the conduit for students to develop a greater awareness of the spiritual realm, which allows them to attain greater meaning and hope in their lives.

As of 2006, St Mark's is adopting an integrated curriculum approach that will see Society and Environment, Science, Health, Technology and the Visual Arts incorporated into units of work, which will allow students to understand the interconnectedness of their learning. This exciting curriculum initiative is in harmony with current best practice.

The Music curriculum is a rich resource at St Mark's, as evidenced by the school choir and bands, plus the large number of students who are involved in the instrumental tuition program.

German and Physical Education are also a vital part of the school curriculum, which in its totality, is supported by integrated technology to enhance student learning across the curriculum.

Students requiring learning support are catered for within the classroom and through withdrawal, either individually or in small groups. This support also extends to students who are involved in the Gifted and Talented program.

Breathing life and energy into the curriculum are our dedicated teaching and support staff, who through their God-given abilities, maximise the students' learning.
